Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Event planners play a critical role in shaping cultural perceptions by designing and executing events that promote and celebrate cultural heritage. In Argungu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, known for its iconic Argungu Fishing Festival, event planners contribute significantly to preserving and showcasing the region’s rich cultural traditions. Their role extends beyond logistics to include storytelling, curation, and audience engagement, influencing how local and international attendees perceive the culture. By integrating traditional elements into modern event designs, planners create experiences that foster appreciation and understanding of cultural values (Abubakar & Musa, 2023). However, the evolving dynamics of cultural events, influenced by globalization and technological advancements, present both opportunities and challenges for event planners in shaping cultural perceptions.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

While cultural events in Argungu have garnered global recognition, the role of event planners in shaping cultural perceptions is often underappreciated. There is limited documentation on how event planners influence audience perceptions through their choices in program content, marketing, and execution. This study seeks to examine the specific contributions of event planners to cultural perception in Argungu and explore strategies for enhancing their impact.
